This
course is a fast-paced introduction to modern and contemporary U.S. poetry, from
Dickinson and Whitman to the present. Participants (who need no prior experience
with poetry) will learn how to read poems that are supposedly
"difficult."
Dear FIX,
A few items for you today.
1) If you submitted a #2
essay, please go back into "writing assignments" and write comments on at least
four of your colleagues' essays. At first you will probably see one essay
to review, but that doesn't mean there aren't more to review once you've done
the first. The second, third and fourth essays will appear once you click
"next." It is important that each essayist review four others. Once an essay
receives at least one review, it is copied to the discussion forum, where
everyone in the course can comment. If you did not submit an essay, please
choose essays you see in the forum - and write at least brief comments. Some
ModPo people are writing reviews of more than four essays; everyone greatly
appreciates that generosity.
2) Our live webcast begins three hours from
now - at 11:45 AM eastern time. Please join us by clicking "live webcast
sessions" in the left-side navigation bar.
3) Week 6 officially begins on
Sunday at 11:59 PM eastern time. But the links to week 6 video discussions - and
the introductory audio - will be made available on Saturday at 11:59 PM. As
usual, they will be linked to the main syllabus page. Week 6 is about the Beat
poets. Essay #3 comes a little later, so this is a week when you will be able to
focus on the poems, contribute to the discussions, and catch up on the videos
you might have missed during previous weeks.
With best wishes from KWH,
your poetic Philly home,
